Sanctuary dancing for Christmas. Dancer instead of the Cross. Herbal remedies instead of the Nativity
Dance in the sanctuary of the Forchheim Monastery Church- story from 2022
The "Christmas for All" benefit concert had a special feature. What rosemary, lavender, and rose tell us. (Cathcon: But what does the Gospel tell us!!!)
"It has become the face of our annual campaign." This is how Lisa Hoffmann, chairwoman of the District Association of Independent Welfare Organizations in the district, described the "Christmas for All" benefit concert, which has been held since 2008 and was able to take place again in the Forchheim Monastery Church after a two-year coronavirus break. The concert hall was packed, and the audience once again experienced a varied and atmospheric program.
Lisa Hoffmann reported that the circle of those receiving additional Christmas joy thanks to the campaign was expanded this year to include needy older citizens who are particularly suffering from rising energy and food costs. In this context, she mentioned a generous donation from the logistics company Simon Hegele, which was presented by Forchheim's managing director, Max Streit.
In his welcoming address, patron District Administrator Hermann Ulm – also on behalf of Mayor Uwe Kirschstein, who was present – praised this benefit concert, which has a permanent place in the general Advent program and whose message features many artists from the region on a voluntary basis. Ulm mentioned that the "Christmas for All" campaign has been running in the city and district for 70 years. It began in the post-war period with donations of cookies and sausages from bakeries and butchers.
This year's concert, held in the atmospherically illuminated church, featured a special feature. For the first time, alongside the music, singing, and spoken word performances, there was expressive dance from the "Tanzpunkt Eggolsheim" under the direction of Kirsten Richter. Solo dancers Leonie Berger and Robin Winkler performed "Cook – You Make Me Brave," and a group of 14 advanced dance students performed "Your Love Is Better." The sanctuary provided an unusual backdrop. Loud applause rewarded the exceptional performances. The Diakonie Bamberg-Forchheim, which was in charge this year, had prepared small gifts for the dance group, and the other participants received beautiful poinsettias from the city nursery.
"Noel" moved frozen limbs
The vocal ensemble SpirAmor from Erlangen performed predominantly old German Christmas carols in artistic song settings. When the five singers encouraged the audience to sing along to the French Christmas carol "Noel" at the end, even the chilly limbs began to move again. Music teacher Alexander Fester from Forchheim surprised the audience with his guitar soloist's skill and vocals, accompanying himself in multiple voices with loops. His interpretation of Sting's "Fields of Gold" was impressive.
Elke Puchtler, an expert in herbal medicine and book author from Adelsdorf, dedicated the connecting texts to plant messages for the Christmas season. She cited rosemary, lavender, and roses as symbols of courage, hope, and love, which are particularly important in these difficult times. With a story about Advent candles, she encouraged the audience to bring light into the world and illuminate the darkness around us.
The former Forchheim Monastery was a monastery of the Franciscan Observants, later the Redemptorists in Forchheim in Bavaria in the Archdiocese of Bamberg. It was converted into a residential complex in 2014
