Decay of religious life must be reversed. Religious life is the engine of mission.

The closure of religious communities continues, even in Lower Brittany, where they had been present in large numbers in villages since the early or mid-19th century. Thus, the last three Daughters of the Holy Spirit left Huelgoat in Finistère at the end of May, after 150 years of presence. In June 2024, the last five Daughters of the Holy Spirit left Le Conquet. The same congregation also left Pluuffan after 161 years of presence – a final tribute was paid to the six departing nuns at the pardon on the first Sunday in September.

In the neighboring diocese of Vannes, the last nun of Loyat is leaving, turning the page on 181 years of the congregation's religious presence in the locality. She retraced the history of her local community in the columns of the local press: "The first Daughters of the Holy Spirit wanted to live together to serve the poor, the sick, and children. They gave of themselves selflessly and were resourceful in finding ways to serve." They lived simply among the people. Together, they formed a charitable mission. A year before their arrival, the mayor of Loyat had submitted a request to the sub-prefecture to open the establishment. Two goals were specified: the education of young girls, and the care of the sick and poor. They arrived on June 21, 1843. The school had already been transferred to lay people in the 1980s, due to a lack of vocations.
