Rugby ball tossed around sanctuary during Installation Mass of mad Bishop who appointed a convicted abuser Chancellor of his Diocese. The Flying Bishop who hates the Latin Mass.

When Bishop of Grenoble, he had given a whole new meaning to the term, "flying bishop".

During his time in Grenoble, he was a sworn enemy of the Latin Mass.

A video of a protest at the time.

The Issue
In the wake of the upheavals shaking the Diocese of Grenoble-Vienne in its two communities dedicated to the Mass according to the Missal of John XXIII, uncertainty hangs over the application of the Motu Proprio Traditionis Custodes.

This petition is a plea: so that the liturgical war does not reignite, so that the traditional Mass may still be understood and maintained, so that the apostolates linked to it may remain complete, for the good of souls and the salvation of the greatest number, in each of our dioceses.

In the name of unity within the barque of Peter, so tossed by the current storms, in the name of fidelity to the universal Church, we ask for peace!

Press Release
An appeal to the French Bishops' Conference - a new petition

Yes to liturgical peace in the Rhône-Alpes region! Yes to maintaining the traditional Mass and the apostolates associated with it! It is in the name of these two pleas that AFSAN, supported by traditional communities in the Rhône-Alpes region, has chosen to appeal to the bishops of France through a petition and an open letter.

The entire French episcopate is meeting in Lourdes from November 2nd to 8th. The agenda, as one might expect, will include the crucial issue of the Sauvé report, which is deeply shaking and wounding the Church in France. But it will also certainly include the implementation of Pope Francis's Motu Proprio Traditionis Custodes.

In a Church in crisis, buffeted by the storms raised by this report, the question of limiting the Latin Mass, but also and especially the works associated with it, seems profoundly out of step with the urgency of the projects facing our bishops.

Do not reignite the liturgical war, keep our priests for us, do not diminish their missions, preserve the pastoral fruitfulness of flourishing parishes and the unity of the Church!

Open Letter to the Bishops

Grenoble, October 29, 2021

To the Bishops of France

Subject: Open Letter on the Application of the Motu Proprio Traditionis Custodes

Your Lordships,

It is as members of communities committed to the extraordinary form of the Rhône-Alpes Province that we address you today, members of the French episcopate, gathered around the Virgin Mary in her sanctuary of Lourdes. This letter is a plea from fervent Catholics, in love with the Church, deeply attached to her, and concerned above all with following Christ, on a chosen path, through the liturgy specific to the Missal of John XXIII, in the diversity that creates unity.

In the diocese of Grenoble-Vienne, the situation is currently conflictual. Following a particularly harsh statement from Bishop de Kerimel, published in the newspaper La Croix, describing traditionalists as extremists outside the Church, an association was formed to speak out against these remarks and urge Bishop de Kerimel not to break the momentum of two flourishing communities, with highly varied apostolates, open to all, and deeply committed to the unity of the Church.

Bishop de Kerimel speaks today of a smooth transition... but we are experiencing a forced transition. And a transition toward what? If his action is to offer only one Paul VI Mass in Latin per month today, what will follow? Why should this approach, which is intended to be a matter of unity, be accompanied by decisions that amount to sanctions against the two priests (ending confirmations in the extraordinary form, abolishing adult baptisms, abolishing chaplaincy services for non-contract schools, abolishing the Scout chaplaincy, etc.)? How far will this go?

Will this decision go beyond the Diocese of Grenoble-Vienne and put a brake on so many other communities in the Province? Why not try the experience of this Paul VI Mass in Latin, ad orientem, in another church in the diocese, inviting every Catholic to discover its richness, in the great freedom of God's children?

All these questions raise concern and fear. We are all the more frightened because we see Peter's boat in the midst of a storm, tossed on all sides by the waves of hatred from the world, by ideologies contrary to the culture of Life that shamelessly display themselves within it, and eaten away from within by cases of sexual abuse, a decline in religious and priestly vocations, and desertion from churches.

Could the time have been worse to attack what is in reality nothing more than the love of a minority for a rich liturgy that continually proves its worth, not only among those who are accustomed to it but also among those who are beginning to practice it again and again, and among those who are converts? How can we not see the growing demand from the faithful, particularly since the beginning of the pandemic?

My Lords, we ask you today to address the liturgical question with those who are concerned, the priests attached to the Extraordinary Form and their superiors. Today, entire families, hundreds of children, adolescents, and men and women of all ages, thirsting for the sacraments of Christ and the teaching of the Church, are accompanied by these priests. Many come to Christ and begin a Christian life guided by them. Do not deprive all these souls of what is so strongly part of the Church's fruitful mission.

In the name of unity, in the name of liturgical peace, in the name of love for the Church, which you all represent together in communion with the Pope, we offer you this prayer: give yourselves time, give us time, this question will only be resolved in a climate of great dialogue, great trust and great respect for what each person represents.

Be assured of our fervent prayers for the universal Church, and in particular for the Church of France and for each of your dioceses.

The communities of Grenoble-Vienne, Annecy, Chambéry, Valence, Bourg-en-Bresse

AND FINALLY

To his entire credit at the end of this miserable record, the Archbishop consecrated his Archdiocese to the Sacred Heart after a diabolical demonstration.
