Largest incense burner in the world

From 2010

Never before has there been so much fragrance of incense at once, never before has such a large cloud of incense been seen rising as the metal censer began to swing in a wide arc above the altar and the front pews. This Saturday, November 20, 2010, it will be ceremoniously consecrated in Waghäusel, near Karlsruhe (Germany), and put into liturgical use. It is referred to as the "largest censer in the world."

The "Censer for Giants" is designed as a celestial body, is made of aluminum, has a diameter of 1.40 m, and weighs 230 kg. Yet the censer is portable and can be swiveled. It hangs from a steel structure whose drive was developed by the University of Karlsruhe. It was created by the artist Otfried Kallfass (Germany) at the initiative of the altar boys of St. Jodokus Wiesental, primarily Johannes Groß, and Michael and Gregor Käpplein (all Germany). On January 16, 2013, the barrel will be measured again and notarized, so that the world record can now be officially confirmed.
