"I don't want to imagine the abyss of intolerance and contempt for humanity we will slide into if responsibility before God increasingly disappears from people's consciousness," the text reads. The planned election of two SPD judicial candidates and one candidate nominated by the CDU/CSU in the Bundestag sparked a dispute within the coalition – the vote was initially canceled. The CDU/CSU had opposed the Potsdam law professor Frauke Brosius-Gersdorf, nominated by the SPD. She is known for her liberal stance on abortion.
