Pope Leo begins to heal relationship with Opus Dei damaged by Francis
Pope Leo XIV, fhe Holy Father received the Prelate of Opus Dei, Monsignor Fernando Ocáriz, in audience today.
The Holy Father Leo XIV received the Prelate of Opus Dei, Monsignor. Fernando Ocáriz, in audience this morning, accompanied by his auxiliary vicar, Monsignor Mariano Fazio. It was a brief meeting, in which the Pope expressed his closeness and affection.
The Holy Father, among other things, inquired about the current study of the Statutes of the Prelature. Leo XIV listened with great interest to the explanations given. At the end of the audience, the Pope referred to the devotions of Our Lady celebrated on the day of his election. In a familiar atmosphere of trust, Leo XIV gave the Prelate and the auxiliary vicar his paternal blessing.
Relationships between Pope Francis and Opus Dei were poor in the recent years although he had praised them for their work in Argentina when he was Archbishop. The statute reform initiated by Francis was one of the topics under discussion today.
