One last visit to Church for 103 year old
To be present at a church service once again - that was the wish of 103-year-old Hermine Wurm. Rolling Angels Association fulfilled her wish together with her family.
With her 103 years, Hermine Wurm is the oldest person from St. Leonhard. "She is very religious and went to church regularly until three years ago," Petra Wurm says about her husband's grandmother. Then came the pandemic. In March 2022, she fell and broke a vertebra. Since then she has been dependent on constant help and care and has not been to church for three years.
"We often prayed and sang together with her at home. But her wish was to be present once again at a mass in church with the priest," says Petra Wurm, who volunteers with the Hospice Movement Freistadt and thus became aware of the Rolling Angels Association. She passed on Hermine Wurm's wish to the association.
The volunteers who fulfilled her wish, Claudia, Andreas and Florian travelled to the snow-covered St. Leonhard with a vehicle specially adapted to the needs of the guests, including wheelchair users and bedridden persons. The 103-year-old was carried into the vehicle on a stretcher and driven to the church. Right in the front row, Hermine Wurm, well wrapped in warm blankets, was able to follow the entire service.
The joy was great
"She was so happy," Petra Wurm tells us. Parish administrator, Ireneusz Dziedzic personally welcomed the Wurm family and their helpers. "After the Mass, some people from St. Leonhard came up to us and spoke to Hermine. She was so happy about that," says Petra Wurm. "She was still excited the whole day and thanked us a thousand times for the trip." Hermine Wurm was the club's oldest passenger to date. Wurm has five children, 19 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
