Serious allegations against Cardinal Primate of France for covering up sexual abuse

The journalist and author Isabelle de Gaulmyn has accused the Archbishop of Lyon, Cardinal Philippe Barbarin, of having been informed before 2007 on abuse cases in his diocese. In her book, "Histoire d'un silence" (History of silence) which appears on Thursday, Gaulmyn says that she had already informed Barbarin between 2004 and 2005 on the cases of abuse, according to various French media.

In an interview with the French newspaper "L'Obs" the journalist says that the church was guilty and should admit this. "And I do not wish to hurt the Church by saying that, but ask him [Barbarin] to remain faithful to his message the church," said Gaulmyn.

Gaulmyn who works as deputy editor of the French newspaper "La Croix", grew up in Lyon and was even a Girl Scout. She knows some victims of the abuse scandal personally.

In August, the French prosecution investigated the Lyons Cardinal Philippe Barbarin. There was no evidence of a crime, it said. Barbarin, Archbishop of Lyon and Primate of France was investigated for non-disclosure of sexual assault within his area of responsibility. A key question on Barbarin's involvement in the abuse scandal is since when did the Primate knew about the abuse cases.
