Church closure now is a Rite!
which includes the closing of the doors!
After Holy Communion, the Rev. Dougher led the rite of departure and closure, praying at the baptismal font, the confessional, the altar and elsewhere in the church. He was joined in prayer by selected congregation members. Then the procession out of the church began, with the Eucharist contained in the gold monstrance and ushers holding a canopy over the procession party. It moved slowly down the front steps through a Knights of Columbus honor guard wearing plumed hats and holding their drawn swords. After the doors were locked, the Eucharist was carried into a waiting limousine for the procession by car to St. Patrick’s, as the crowd dispersed to follow.
