Will the Pope celebrate the 1962 Latin Mass in November?

The alleged "reform of the reform" of Pope Benedict XVI has after more than seven years of his pontificate remained a paper tiger. Will the Pope try to give the movement a new impulse? On 3 November, thousands of traditionalists from around the world will assist at a Pontifical Mass in the old rite in St. Peter's Basilica.

On 10 September, the organizers gave details about the occasion in the Roman parish of Santissima Trinita dei Pellegrini, which is run by the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter. Organizer of the widely supported pilgrimage is the platform 'Coetus Internationalis Pro Summorum Pontificum'. It is a union of several Catholic organizations. The spiritual assistant of the pilgrimage is a famous French priest, Right Revd Father Claude Barthe. A group of the lay organization 'Pro Missa Tridentina' will join the pilgrimage from Germany.

It was not stated at the press conference who will celebrate the Mass. Therefore, a statement made on the well-informed blog 'messainlatino.it' gives rise to speculation. It said that the pilgrimage will go down in the history of the church, if the rumor about the celebrant is confirmed. This is read by observers as an indication that Pope Benedict XVI- whose "reform of the reform" has long been stalled - could hold on this occasion his first pontifical Mass in the old rite (Cathcon- as Pope- he celebrated the Old Rite as Cardinal).

Many TV stations will be covering the Mas The pilgrimage is performed in appreciation of the publication of the Motu Proprio "Summorum Pontificum." Further, it is a rally of loyalty for the Pope, given the current church decline. Several international broadcasters - including 'EWTN', 'CNN', 'Fox News',' BBC ',' RAI 'and even the Arabic channels' Al Jazeera ' will be covering the Mass. The organisers published a promotional video for the pilgrimage on 12 September with the title "Una cum Papa nostro"

To answer the question you posed: No, sadly, he won't.

Unless we pray for him and believe that nothing is impossible with God.

He could celebrate the old rite from the throne and have cardinal Burke be at the altar.

I've heard he isn't going to say it from multiple sources.

That doesn't mean he won't.

He definitely will not because next year he is putting into place another part of his plan to eventually abrogate The Holy Mass of Pope St Pius V which codified that of Pope St Gregory The Great. He will replace this with a fully hybridised version with more vernacular and "ad populum".
Many of us are getting ready to defend The Latin Mass of All Times once again. If you doubt this then you have understood nothing about Pope Benedict XVI's policies on the liturgy.

Soory to deceive you Alan, he will never do this - it is impossible for Pope benedict XVI - he just will not do this as he has no interest in so doing.

@Tancred: What are your sources?

@LeonG: Based on precedent—such as how he treated Abp. Lefebvre and how he tested, e.g., the Institute of Christ the King's loyalty by forcing Msgr. Wach to concelebrate a Novus Ordo with him—it would seem extremely unlikely that he would ever publicly celebrate a 1962 Rite Mass. But this is no reason to despair. Have faith. Anything is possible with God.
