Feminist friend of Nancy Pelosi suggested as first female cardinal.

Reactions

"She’s married and a feminist to boot, but Irish theologian Linda Hogan is being touted as a candidate to become the first female “prince” of the Catholic Church.

Hogan, 49, has become the subject of widespread speculation that Pope Francis will someday choose her to break the Holy See’s stained-glass ceiling.

The reformist Argentinian Pope, considered liberal on social issues, has made one of his top goals boosting the role of women in the Church, saying it needs to develop “a truly deep theology of women.”"

A tabernacle Jim, but not as we know it.

The tabernacle of the Marylake Augustinians, near Ontario.    It looks more like a piece of scenery from Star Trek which was never even used for filming.

Weighs two and a half tons.  It is made of travertine marble and was sculpted by Mr. Earl Neiman
who also fashioned the celebrants chair and lectern in the same material. His wife, Maria, executed the bronze crucifix,  candleholders and sanctuary lamp, as well as the terra-cotta stations of the cross.

The church itself looks rather more like Starfleet Command than a church.

Update- when I wrote the above comment, I had not actually checked what Starfleet Command looked like.  Many a true word spoken in jest.

The worst liturgical abuse of all time.

Archbishop of Canterbury lets the ecumenical cat out of the bag.

Reactions

"God has given you, and given us all, a great Pope. And he’s a great Pope of surprises… and I think people are inspired and uplifted by what they see in Pope Francis, as I am. I think he’s a wonderful person. Surprises? Yes, I think there’ll be one or two surprises. We’re hoping to produce a few surprises."

Cathcon- the Pope has stated that

"Vatican II, inspired by Pope Paul VI and John [XXIII], decided to look to the future with a modern spirit and to be open to modern culture. The Council Fathers knew that being open to modern culture meant religious ecumenism and dialogue with non-believers. But afterwards very little was done in that direction. I have the humility and ambition to want to do something."

False ecumenism has already done plenty enough damage in the post-concilar church, but we are now living in a world, where the once-allegedly conservative Archbishop of Birmingham thinks Anglicans could be admitted to Catholic communion, despite their almost total rejection and relativisation of the great dogmas of the Church.   What ecumenical advance can be made with a church that is on the verge of nominating female bishops?

The Archbishop has clearly seen which way the wind is blowing in Rome and clearly loves the thought of a Roman promotion more than his Archdiocese.   He has probably got help from the retired Archbishop of Westminster, who in this topsy-turvy world is now a close adviser to the Pope.  See here for the dismal record of the Cardinal.

Chapel as alien form- modernist design in Austria

New chapel in Austria  dedicated to Blessed Engelbert Kolland, who was martyred for refusing to convert to Islam.  The chapel does not show forth the faith he died for.

"Nobody steps on a Church in my town"

Scene from the classic film, Ghostbusters. Weep for the countless churches that have been closed by the bishops since this glorious film was made.  (The line itself is shortly after 0.40)
