Cardinal Danielou founded the Cercle de St Jean Baptist that promoted the back to the early church movement. They regarded the early church as a golden age of spiritual purity before doctrine was overlaid by medieval speculations. The danger is that the church would be returned to her situation in her first days- given the haemoraging in the numbers of the faithful, this is exactly what has occurred.
