Priest banned from preaching this Easter for views on homosexuality and Islam

Reactions
Controversial parish: Easter preaching ban

Karl Tropper, pastor of St. Veit / Vogau has reiterated his controversial statements about homosexuality and Islam. The pastor is banned from preaching at Easter on 31st and must retire permanently in August.

The Diocese Graz-Seckau now takes stronger measures after numerous - fruitless - warnings to the parish priest of St. Veit am Vogau, Karl Tropper, because of his"pronouncements" against homosexuals. These have been repeated "particularly on certain important issues such as 'homosexuality' and 'Islam' in an unreasonably simplistic and hate-filled manner, such as in a conversation with the Kleine Zeitung. The Diocese has announced these measures in a press release. Therefore during Easter not Tropper, but Vicar General Henry Schnuderl will be holding services from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday in the Church of St. Veit am Vogau (Leibnitz district).

"Stubbornness that comes with age" The unusually sharp measure was justified: "Such statements prevent a necessarily differentiated discussion on these complex issues.” The diagnosis of stubbornness which comes with age, which excuses the parish priest, is no longer sufficient. It was planned anyway that Tropper (75) at the end of August would retire as parish priest of St. Veit am Vogau", said spokesman Georg Planck. Now there is a ban from preaching the same at Easter: "In order for the coming Holy Week, not to darken the central message of the Passion, death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ with conflicts, Vicar General Henry Schnuderl will conduct the liturgical celebrations from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday in the parish of St Veit am Vogau, "said Planck. What happens further remains to be seen.

Tropper had in an interview with the "Kleine Zeitung" on Friday again described homosexuals as "perverts": "If you can no longer say this, you have to go as a parish priest into retirement." The diocese had last Thursday and once again warned the South Styrian priest because he had railed against homosexuals - this time, according to media reports in the journal of his parish church. He talked of others as "homo-deranged".The man of God had often declared his opinion bluntly and was admonished for it.

The Anti-Discrimination Unit of Styria said that "apart from the improper language use of the term 'homos' on the part of the parish priest, statements using irrelevant arguments, discriminatory attitudes and incorrect information" would attract attention according to manager Daniela Grabovac. Legal action was being considered. Regional Integration Minister Bettina Vollath (S) welcomed the "clear message" of the Diocese of Graz-Seckau: "Many Styrian parishes set great merits on peaceful coexistence in our country. I am glad that Bishop Egon Kapellari as assured me yesterday in a personal discussion, taken a stand against incitement and exclusion occusing in our country. "

Previously there had been two complaints against Tropper on suspicion of incitement to the public prosecutor in Graz - one dated April 2012 from the Graz initiative "Pink Purple Panther Women" and in February 2013 from the activist Kurt Zernig. The investigations were not continued because Tropper had not said anything about violence, it is said.

And in another interview
Is it the right way, even in the Churchto proclaim such weird opinions about homosexuality and Islam? KARL TROPPER: Whoever would say otherwise, if I do not? The priest should do all he can. The bishops in Austria and Germany are failures, not to discover what is brewing. In 50 years, Vienna is a Muslim city, the Votivkirche, a large mosque.
Cathcon- the occupation of the Votive Church by asylum seekers from the Middle East has just ended.
The late Cardinal Joos expressed similar views.

Brothel visits are confirmation presents in Austria- police bring 162 charges

Nach der Firmung ins Bordell - Österreich-Chronik - derStandard.at › Panorama

When it comes to male initiation rites, Styrian tradition now includes some quite remarkable variants. As a result of a key action of the police under youth protection law at the beginning of the week, investigators said that it was common for Styrian children who receive in these days from the local parish priest, the sacrament of Confirmation, are rewarded for that church occasion with a most secular one: a brothel visit.

In the bishop's office of the Diocese of Graz-Seckau, no one wanted to believe the revelation of the debauched confirmation culture .Bishop Egon Kapellari finally gave guidance- the Catholic Church in Styria was "the largest provider of sexuality workshops" where under the slogan 'Terms of Endearment' youngsters are shown the responsible use of their sexual power." Visits to brothels in general, and certainly as not as a confirmation gift do not conform to " the Christian image of man, nor do they meet the needs of young people in their lives."

The actual confirmation gift could lead to large fines for the godfather, as visits to brothels are not allowed before the age of 18 years, said Inspector Franz Handler who with his colleagues in the districts of Weiz and Hartberg made 162 charges against young people, children's guardians and brothel keepers . Adults who breach the Protection of Minors legislation, says Handler, are liable to a fine of up to 2500 €.

"Female" confirmation gift normal a hundred years ago

Peter Jaron Zwi Scheer, head of the psychosomatic-psychotherapeutic department at Graz Children's Hospital reacted calmly. "History repeats itself. A hundred years ago this was normal. Great damage to the adolescents is not to be expected."

Confirmation Gifts - with the blessing of the Church - are available on the website of the Catholic Youth firmung.at: an incense bowl, patchwork blanket, meditation cord, and under "B" instead of "brothel" is: the Bible.

Another allegation in Admont

Abuse: New allegations in the Admont Case

Two days after abuse allegations against two priests of the Admont community were made public, there are now very similar allegations from a second member of the public. A stir was caused in particular by the case of the first alleged victim being rejected by the Klasnic Commission and no compensation being given - even though there are clear statements from other ex-students.

After the testimony of the initial victim to the Klasnic Commission was classified as not credible enough, they are now confronted with virtually identical claims from a second alleged victim. A report by the Catholic Press Agency, according to which which other victims of the same alleged perpetrator were compensated, was corrected by the Agency. In these cases, it is said to have acted as with other alleged perpetrators.

No leave of absence
One of the two accused priests is still active in a parish. According to information from ORF.at, those legally required to do so in the Diocese of Graz-Seckau currently are examining the case, particularly the question of why after learning of the allegations - both Cardinal Christoph Schönborn and Bishop Egon Kapellari were personally informed in letters - the accused priest was not given leave of absence. ORF.at learns that Bishop Egon Kapellari knew basically exactly happened, and was "playing it safe".

The second alleged victim as early as 2010 made both a statement of facts to the police (the case was dropped because of the statute of limitations, note) as well as to the Klasnic Commission. This case is still pending with the Commission.

Critics see "coverup"
The "Platform for the Victims of Ecclesiastical Abuse" in a press release release yesterday criticized again the "inaction of the church and the Klasnic commission" and spoke of a "coverup". At the same time the Platform stressed that it will aim at ensuring that a civil law case will be brought for Admont victims "against the perpetrators and accomplices."

Another ex-pupil contradicts the story
A former pupil of Admont - he contacted the Austrian Press Agency after the media reports a few days ago - said, however, and he and several other fellow ex-pupils could "not understand." The man explained that he shared a dormitory with one of the victims and "would have seen something of welts or burns."

Abuse in Admont Abbey: Cardinal Schönborn as "accessory"?

Missbrauch in Admont: Schönborn als "Mitwisser"? « DiePresse.com:

The Klasnic Commission (the church established commission investigating sexual abuse) rejected a compensation claim for a student of Admont, although there are witnesses and a confession which has now been taken back. Critics accuse the Church of cover-up.

An abuse charge against Admont now brings trouble for the Klasnic Commission: Although there are witnesses and a confession which has now been taken back, the Commission has rejected compensation for an alleged abuse victim, reports the Ö1 Morning Journal. The criteria for compensation are unclear, critics say.

A now 57-year-old who wants to remain anonymous says that, as a teenager at the boarding school, he was severely beaten and seriously injuredby two Fathers of Admont Abbey. He was raped, flogged and beaten unconscious, forced to have cold showers and to stand on a cold stone floor. He suffered permanent hearing damage among other problems. The man turned to the Klasnic Commission, which established a causal relationship "between the sexual assault suffered and the psychological consequences described." However, there was no money.

The alleged victim found the decision incomprehensible. A witness confirmed the allegations to Ö1, as well as the medical and psychiatric reports. One of the accused priests had admitted to the news magazine "profil", in March 2010, to be "the man responsible for the hearing impairment" . "I suffer, must live with it and ask for forgiveness." Later he would revoke his confession.

"Complicity and inaction"

The Platform of the Victims of Ecclesiastical Abuse raises serious allegations against Cardinal Schönborn and the Bishop of the Diocese of Graz-Seckau, Egon Kapellari, accusing them of "complicity and inaction". Schönborn and Kapellari were informed in 2010 about the priest, but he was not dismissed. The Klasnic Commission is just "another instrument of the Church cover-up".

The Abbey contests the Ö1 report about the sexual assault and speaks only of a single slap. The Klasnic Commission has stated that it had examined the case several timesand rejected it.

Austrian Bishop attacks Father Wagner's appointment

Bischof Kapellari findet klare Worte zum Ende der Krise- Kleine Zeitung

Bishop Kapellari finds clear words for the end of the crisis
Bishop Egon Kapellari has unusually sharply criticised the appointment of Father Wagner as Bishop to the Pastoral Council of the Diocese of Styrer.

Critics accuse the Catholic Church of only talking down their internal problems. Wrongly, as at least the third plenary session of the Diocesan Council in the Mariatrost Formation Institute showed. Open Bishop Egon Kapellari spoke about that problem in ecclesiastical politics which most severely hurt the delegates: the events surrounding the appointment of parish priest Gerhard Wagner as Auxiliary Bishop in Linz.

Long shadows. The shadow of this incident will be long Kapellari supposed, who undoubtedly was critical: "Wagner has given answers which were traumatic for the public." Conclusion: One could no longer talk about homosexuality and also about the question of a punitive God.

Critics. The appointment of Wagner had brought many critics into action, who had demanded that Episcopal appointments be transparent and even democratic. "We do not want the grass-root movements to create lists with which the Vatican can be put under pressure," Kapellari defends the current method against changes, because: "The system of appointments has produced, in recent years, surprisingly few cases of conflict."

"Pastoral Letter." The Bishops have sought that no further cases occur with their "Pastoral Letter" in which they call upon Rome to observe the rules of the Episcopal appointments. Thereby "much strength and time" could be conserved, because: "Especially in a time of social instability, it is important that the Church is stable so as to better assist you," concluded Kapellari.

Our Lord traumatises the public of his own day.
