The offender in court

The service in the cathedral on Sunday was in full swing when suddenly three young people stormed to the altar armed with banners . "Having a 20-year-old woman and two men aged 23 and 25 years of wild chanting slogans and held up a banner reading," said a police spokesman. On the banner in pink letters, the slogan, "Free Pussy Riot and all Prisoners" (Freedom for all prisoners and Pussy Riot) was to be read.

The colorfully costumed trio was seized by security in the Cathedral Church. According to police, they offered absolutely no resistance. Outside, they continued with their protest . By his own admission, the three activists wanted to show solidarity with the punk musicians in the band Pussy Riot who have been sentenced to a prison camp.

Bishop will pray for Pussy Riot
Bishop Heiner Koch is said, according to a report from "ZDF", during the protest to have remained quiet at the altar. After the incident, he said, the concerns of these people and the people of Russia should be made the subject of prayers.

The Russian punk band staged in February at the Moscow Church of the Redeemer a punk prayer in which they had asked the Virgin Mary to free Russia from President Vladimir Putin. Three of the women involved have now been sentenced to two years in a penal camp by a Russian court for "hooliganism" .

Provost Norbert Feldhoff already announced at the beginning of the trial in Russia that such a performance would not be well tolerated in the Cologne Cathedral: "The dignity of the Cathedral forces us to take action. Lawsuits for trespassing and disturbance of religious worship have now been taken out against the Cologne activists.
