Vatican decision expected on Medjugorje

Richtlinien zu „Erscheinungen“ und „Botschaften“ veröffentlicht – Entscheidung zu Medjugorje erwartet ›

Guidelines for "appearances" and "messages" published
The CDF published on 29 May Norms regarding the manner of proceeding in the discernment of presumed apparitions or revelations. They have formed since 1978 the standard by which the Church examines alleged apparitions. In Normae de modo procedendi in diiudicandis praesumptis apparitionibus ac reveationibus, it is noted that for "private revelations" that is "alleged apparitions, visions and messages to which supernatural origins are attributed" to be authentic, they must be focused on Jesus. They can "introduce new dimensions, bringing to light new forms of piety or deepening old," but they cannot in any way, "correct" Divine revelation or contradict this.

Guidelines date from 1978 - publication linked with Medjugorje?
The newly published guidelines were already on 25 February 1978 adopted by the CDF, as William Cardinal Levada, Prefect of the Congregation points out in his introduction. At that time, they were brought to the attention of the bishops, but not made known. The reason was that they concerned "primarily the pastors of the Church" said the Prefect. Why have they now been published? Is the disclosure in connection with the decision still-awaited in 2012 on Medjugorje?

The question of experiences that are linked to supernatural phenomena, have been in the life and mission of the church always been  topical, as it was during the 12th Ordinary Synod of Bishops of 2008.

Pope Benedict XVI. saw the need, in his Post-Synodal Apostolic Verbum Domini to respond.

Pope Benedict XVI about private revelations
In all of this, the Church gives voice to her awareness that with Jesus Christ she stands before the definitive word of God: he is “the first and the last” (Rev 1:17). He has given creation and history their definitive meaning; and hence we are called to live in time and in God’s creation within this eschatological rhythm of the word; “thus the Christian dispensation, since it is the new and definitive covenant, will never pass away; and no new public revelation is to be expected before the glorious manifestation of our Lord Jesus Christ (cf. 1 Tim 6:14 and Tit 2:13)

So said Benedict XVI

Consequently, the Synod pointed to the need to “help the faithful to distinguish the word of God from private revelations”  [Proposition 47]

Throughout the ages, there have been so-called "private" revelations, some of which have been recognized by the authority of the Church. They do not belong, however, to the deposit of faith. It is not their role to improve or complete Christ's definitive Revelation, but to help live more fully by it in a certain period of history. Guided by the Magisterium of the Church, the sensus fidelium knows how to discern and welcome in these revelations whatever constitutes an authentic call of Christ or his saints to the Church
[Catechism of the Catholic Church, 67]
(Cathcon- I quote the whole paragraph)

The value of private revelations is essentially different from that of a public revelation: These support our faith, as through human words and through the mediation of the living community of the church , God himself speaks to us. The standard for the truth of a private revelation is its orientation to Christ himself. If they are leading us away from Him, then they certainly do not come from the Holy Spirit who guides us more deeply into the Gospel and not away from it. Private revelation is a help to this faith, and is proven credible by refering to a public revelation.

The Church's approval of a private revelation is therefore indicative of, essentially, that the corresponding message contains nothing contrary to faith or morals, it is permissible to publish them, and it is allowed for the faithful to give their wise consent .

A private revelation can deepen or give new dimensions that highlight new ways of piety or old.  They can have a certain prophetic character (cf. 1 Thes 5:19-21) and be a valuable tool to better understand and to live the Gospel in a particular moment , so they should not be disregarded. It is a help that is offered, but one which one is not obliged to use.But in all of this there must be a nurturing of faith, hope and love, which are the unchanging path to salvation for everyone. The Message of Fatima (26 June 2000) : Ench. Vat 19, Nos. 974-1021]

Lourdes and Fatima were officially recognized by the Church
Worldwide, there are several current phenomena of alleged apparitions and messages which were explained by those affected as supernatural influence. The Church saw in its history no reason to comment on any vision, but does so when a special need exists, particularly the danger that believers might be misled. Few visions have been officially recognized by the Church. These include those of Lourdes and Fatima.

Commission of Inquiry on Medjugorje established in 2010
Currently, a decision is expected on Medjugorje. To test the alleged apparitions in the mountain village of Herzegovina, Pope Benedict XVI in 2010 set up a commission of inquiry whose final report is expected in 2012.

The competent bishops' conference said in 1991 that "non constat de supernaturalitate ", which means "the supernatural nature is not certain". The final judgment for what the Vatican's commission of inquiry established by Pope Benedict XVI is not yet known.

"Non constat de supernaturalitate " means a negative decision, according to guidelines
The newly published guidelines from 1978 are the basis for the work of Medjugorje Commission of Inquiry. The church has, according to ecclesiastical practice, two choices available: "constat de supernaturalitate " in which she recognises the supernatural nature and therefore recognizes a vision (positive decision) and "non constat de supernaturalitate" by which the Church rules that the supernatural nature is not certain (negative decision).

Until the 1970s, the negative decision read "constat de non supernaturalitate"- it is cetain that it is not of supernatural nature. This formulation was replaced in the canonically binding 1978 Normae de modo procedendi in diiudicandis praesumptis apparitionibus ac reveationibus with the new formulation. A non constat de supernaturalitate means a negative judgement about the alleged visionary phenomenon, since the all-important authenticity remains doubtful.

The various meanings of constat.
One dictionary
it is agreed/evident/understood/correct/well known (everyone knows/agrees)
Another dictionary

it is certain
As a noun it can mean cerfied report
The Church in 1978 moved the negative non and thereby moved from deciding on the truth of a revelation to interpreting it. That said, the local Bishop's Conference have over the years been very hostile to Medjugorje and her Franciscan promoters.

One of the visionaries, Mirjana

The place has its supporters and detractors. Among the supporters is found, Cardinal Schönborn who is also a key supporter in Rome.

Among the detractors, the traditionalist author Michael Davies who wrote a critical book and who told me on the second of his two visits he received threats by telephone on the last day that he would be murdered if he ever visited again.

Father Brown investigates Vatileaks

This is the theme tune of the German version of Father Brown- which would be familiar to the Pope from his earlier years.

Ecclesia Dei- Mass Obligation NOT Fulfilled at SSPX-Affiliated Chapel

"On February 19, 2012, a letter was written to His Eminence William Cardinal Levada, President of the Pontifical Commission Ecclesia Dei asking if a Catholic may fulfill the precept to assist at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass at a chapel which is affiliated with the Society of St. Pius X.  Queen of Martyrs Press has received a transcription of the letter written to the Pontifical Commission with the latter's response (both with necessary editions).  The response is an apparent 180° reversal of the previously - publicized responses from Roman authorities, including that of the Pontifical Commission Ecclesia Dei  in regards to the fulfillment of the precept to assist at Holy Mass at SSPX-affiliated chapels.   What is interesting about the date of the response from Ecclesia Dei is that it was written 12 days after deadline requesting Bp. Fellay to clarify his stance on the doctrinal preamble was publicized."

Cathcon has many books full of old decisions of the Congregation for Rites.  They tend not to contradict eachother.

Pope deserves Nobel Prize for Economics, not for Theology, says former Head of Vatican Bank

No wonder he lost his job- he also said that the Pope was the greatest economist in the world. Move over Paul Krugman- not that I think he deserves the title either, but many in Europe do. He then talks about the relationship of various other religions to economics and then tells a joke about Hitler.... Elsewhere, Italian newspapers quote him ..."I love the Pope more than my reputation" and "I'm torn between the anxiety to explain the truth and not wanting to disturb the Holy Father"

Woman trains as Iman in Germany

Feature: Die Predigerin des Islam - Nachrichten Newsticker - News3 (DAPD) - WELT ONLINE

Hilal Sandikci preaches Islam, because she is looking for answers. She cannot stand open questions. Since Secondary School in Herten near Recklinghausen, the 23-year-old has been occupied with the Koran, which offers plenty of room for interpretation, and the religion that is so complex. Meanwhile, it has become a profession.

Hilal Sandikci was trained as a female Iman in a Turkish Cultural Centre. Since then, she teaches the Muslim faith to Turkish people. Because she wanted to preach Islam, but also in German, in parallel with her A-levels, she took the training for Imans.

"I've learned a lot from the training for imams," she says. "I have been given structures of how I respond and react to situations." They also can call on the instructor at any time and ask how what verse is to be interpreted. For Sandikci, the program is just a further step. As a further step, in autumn she will be one of the first students to study Islamic theology in Osnabrück. This is her dream.

Sandikci wears a long brown skirt to just above the ankles, and hands and face are unveiled. A scarf covers her hair. "This is required by the Koran," she says as she sits in a café in front of the Osnabrück-Islam Centre. Around her neck she wears a necklace with a bronze amulet.
Depicted on it is an Arabic letter. In the Latin alphabet, it says "Waw", the symbol of the "servant of God." It is her life's motto: Be humble and live to serve God. So "Waw" was also chosen for the screen for her Facebook profile. She likes the symbol because "the baby in the womb has the form of Waw".

In order to realize their dream of a college degree, Sandikci was a year ago at the Emscher-Lippe training college in Gelsenkirchen. There was a fateful encounter. Actually it was only because of Islamist extremists that she entered the training program for imams in Osnabrück.

In her class was a Salafist. He blustered: "Women must obey men" or "You come all to hell. I just want to help you.." The Islamist hardliners put the Quran literally and threw a bad light on their religion, says Sandikci.

When she comes from a course of training program for imams, in whuch the director of the Islamic Institute, Bülent Ucar encourages Muslims to distance themselves from religious extremists, she said: "It made me angry that I got could not argue against it in German in front of my classmates ."

She talked to a student adviser about Gelsenkirchen, who then advised her about the program that educates the imams through the medium of German. In Osnabrück, she found "support for arguments, which can show to the Germans that we are not like that", and learned that Germany's largest institute of Islamic theology is being developed there.

In the time until the start of the course this winter semester, she takes in parallel to the school twice a month the training program for imams and hopes that with her education, professional experience and the programme, she will be accepted as admission. The course in Gelsenkirchen only finishes in 2014. She won't wait that long. She is impatient. She wants to get through the study of Islam as soon as possible in order to answer the open questions her faith brings with it.

Three new suspects in Vatileaks scandal work in the Secretariat of State

Sadness in his heart": as Benedict XVI scandal makes public his displeasure on the leaks scandal in the Vatican, there is speculation behind the scenes on more arrests: three lay people from the State Secretariat have attracted the attention of the investigators.

Paolo Gabriele, the treacherous servant of the Pope is sitting in a holding cell in the Vatican. So far he is the only one who has been arrested in connection with the scandal of stolen confidential documents of the Pope. But it is expected that Domenico Giani, the head of the Vatican Police and former employee of the Italian secret service will strike again. According to rumours, three laymen employed at the Secretariat of State of the Holy See are in his sights.

Still, the interrogations have not started of the 46-year-old "Paoletto" in whose apartment, Vatican police found Papal documents. But details are now circulating. Perhaps, he has been for a year acting as a spy and thief - but on whose behalf, that is the question. For six months, the Papal policeman apparently had him under observation because of contacts that Paolo Gabriele had outside the Vatican. A document from the office of the Holy Father then apparently removed the doubt that he must be the man who had passed on the papers.

Pope Secretary George Gänswein had discovered the document in the book "Sua Santità" by Gianluigi Nuzzi. Nuzzi quoted from documents from Benedict's correspondence and documents of the State Secretariat, a number of which are reproduced in facsimile. It is now rumored that Gänswein confronted Paoletto with the serious suspicion, hours before the police made the arrest last Wednesday. The paper in question, the balance sheet of the " Pope Benedict XVI. Foundation " must have been taken from Gänsweins desk, as this document is not passed for safekeeping to the archive.

The Pope criticized the media. Some had "painted a picture of the Holy See, which does not correspond to reality," the pope said to 15,000 faithful at the General Audience. Ther was "sadness in his heart" about the revelations. Benedict has every reason to be so, because it's not just about the disappointment with the man who belonged to his household for six years and had the closest contact with him. It can hardly be doubted that behind "Vatileaks", the leaks in the Vatican there is intrigue and a power struggle. Supporters and opponents of the controversial Secretary of State Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone juggle to the detriment of the church and the Pope.

For the first time, the Official Journal of the Vatican, Osservatore Romano has picked up the scandal. It was not Bertone who took the floor, but his deputy, Archbishop Angelo Becciu. He was bitter to see that such an investigation would now take place. The publication of the stolen papers was an "immoral, outrageous act," said, Becciu but "the image of a Vatican of fighting, poison and suspicions" was still wrong.

After castration case in Netherlands, new study on links between Church and psychiatry

Minister: Onderzoek naar invloed kerk op psychiatrie - Kerknieuws - Kerk & Religi

Study of church influence on psychiatry

There is to be an independent scientific research into the history of psychiatry and the influence of the Roman Catholic Church. Particular attention will be paid to the role of the church when it comes to castration of people, Netherlands Health Secretary, MarliesVeldhuijzen  van Zanten said in Wednesday to the Houses of Parliament.

The minister wants to look at the legal, ethical, religious, historical and health law aspects of castration. The insistance on an investigation came from Parliament and also from the Deetman Commission who investigated abuse in the church. Veldhuijzen will consult with scientists who have previously been consulted on the subject, to see how research can best proceed.

Recently concern arose from a story about a sexually abused boy who in the '50s who had been castrated in a psychiatric institution linked to the Roman Catholic Church. The Chamber launched a consultation about castration, which had been scheduled for Thursday.

The sins of the President of the Vatican Bank

Ior, il documento contro Gotti Tedeschi - Il Messaggero

"erratic and wrong behavior"

excessive centralization in management policies

"inability" to provide information about the bank and the viability of its operations

.........are just some of the criticisms by the Vatican Bank (IOR) board of Ettore Gotti Tedeschi in the document of no confidence in the possession of Corriere della Sera published on its website. The memorandum - the basis for no confidence in President Gotti Tedeschi - was discussed on 24 May this year, stressing that it was conceived and written in "under exceptional circumstances."

It says, inter alia, that the President of the IOR during the confrontation in the board, "has had the opportunity to express themselves freely and to make the necessary observations." Gotti Tedeschi has spoken for more than 70 minutes at around 15.40 when he was then presented with a motion of no confidence passed by the directors."

Gotti Tedeschi, the document reads, "around 4 pm left the board, before knowing the outcome of the vote."

The reasons that lie at the root of the decision to censure the President are divided into 9 points:

1) failure carry on the duties of President,

2) failure to be informed about the activities of the institute and accordingly to inform the board of directors

3) not participating in the work of the board

4) lack of prudence and precision with respect to the policy of the bank

5) inability to provide explanations on the distribution of documents in the possession of the President;

6) dissemination of inaccurate information about the institution

7) inability to publicly represent and defend the bank in response to inaccurate information by the media

8) excessive centralization

9) progressive wrong and erratic behavior

In the light of these comments and criticisms, we read in the Memorandum, "at 5 pm the board of directors approved a motion of no confidence. "The board of supervision of the Vatican Bank do not have any more confidence in President Ettore Gotti Tedeschi, and suggests the end of his term as president and adviser." The meeting ended at 17.30.

Cardinal- The Pope will not resign

Resignation of the Pope because of the betrayal of state secrets from his immediate circle is not on the cards in the opinion of Roman Cardinal Angelo Comastro. Benedict XVI suffered from the betrayal, but he will not avoid difficulties and would "never give up his office," the Cardinal said in an interview with the daily newspaper "Il Messaggero" on Wednesday.

Comastro, Archpriest of St. Peter and Vicar General of Vatican City, also denied at the same time that a Cardinal could be involved in the publication of the secret Papal documents.

Betrayal of secrets and the disclosure of confidential documents has happened again and again in church history, the German Cardinal Walter Brandmüller said in an interview with "La Stampa" (Wednesday). During the First Vatican Council's 1870/71 secret papers were leaked to German publications. The longtime head of the Vatican Historical Commission then referred to the French King Philip the Fair, who had forged a papal bull, in order to discredit Boniface VIII (1294-1303).

He argued decisively against the Brandmüller argument that the leakers of the documents wanted only to help the Pope. "You can not claim to help the pope by committing crimes. Such an approach helps nothing, but only does harm," said the German cardinal.

How the Pope's butler was caught

There is a confidential document, including those stolen in the Holy See, which speaks more than others. And it nailed the former aide to House of the Pope, Paulo Gabriele, as the suspicion of being a "mole". Not the only document nor perhaps the most substantial. But it ensured that Father Georg Gänswein, the personal secretary of Pope Benedict XVI, identified the individual through the pages of the book by journalist Gianluigi Nuzzi. And a few hours before the police arrest Gabriele, there was an interview between the two. From the dramatic events.

Let's step back, to Tuesday, May 22. Four days before Nuzzi released his book. Among the papers published there was one that had attracted the attention of Father Georg. This is the budget document of Joseph Ratzinger Vatican Foundation. A recent piece of paper, perhaps dating back to March, which certifies a budget surplus in 2012 of one million euros. The president of the Foundation, Monsignor Giuseppe Scotti sent it directly to the Pope for his approval. This is not the most compromising of the paper. But it has a peculiarity. It had to be returned after the Papal signature, without going directly to the Foundation, in contrast to other documents which went into the archives of the Secretariat of State. Whoever had stolen it to forward it to the journalist, then, had either taken it from the Foundation (hypothesis immediately rejected) or taken it directly from the desk of Father Georg.

The Vatican Gendarmerie commanded by Domenico Giani was immediately informed of this fact. One detail that has in fact shifted the focus from the offices of the Secretary of State, from which it was thought initially that the leaks came to the inner circle of assistants of Joseph Ratzinger. But why Paulo Gabriele, among the twenty-four members of the pontifical family that shares those rooms? What told against him is a message that arrived six months earlier and then takes shape. A voice that indicated the forty year old Roman was too close to people outside the Church. Those who meet Gabriel in those hours before the arrest describes him as quiet. He was unaware of the clouds gathering over his head.

Then on Tuesday evening, Father Georg called him to talk. A highly confidential conversation, that this newspaper is able to reconstruct. The Secretary of Ratzinger wants to know if he is the author of the leak and whether he has any contacts outside the Holy See. He is offered the opportunity to give himself up but "Paoletto" said that he had nothing to confess. The rest is the record of an arrest. In the afternoon of Wednesday, May 23 Giani's men search the house in Via di Porta Angelica, where Gabriel lives with his wife and three children. They take four chests of documents, the computer and some books. Towards evening, they take him to the cell of the police station and question him. And from there, he has not moved.

Hackers want to make sure Belgian church is silenced

Des hackers veulent « contraindre l’Église belge au silence » |

The Dutch-Belgian Catholic site was still inaccessible on Tuesday morning May 29, due to hacker attacks which it has suffered for over a month.

According to Toon Osaer, director of the company, Halewijn that publishes Kerk & Leven , the site has suffered cyber attacks since April 27 which make access impossible.

"The attacks were carried out simultaneously from multiple computers, so that the full width of the bandwidth (the ability to connect to the server, Ed) is used and the website is no longer accessible, Toon Osaer stated. One of the first steps was to change our DNS settings, but the pirates knew we could not be illusory and they would find us anyway. "

Toon Osaer then claims to have tried to contact the hackers. "I was advised that they want to force the Church into silence. There are therefore a clear ideological connotations for this action, "he says.

Hackers have signed their letter, written in English, "on behalf of TS." However, the use of language reveals that they are not native English speakers.

A complaint has meanwhile been filed with the Federal Belgian Computer Crime Unit.

The Holy War against Cardinal Bertone and the battle for control of the Vatican Bank

Vaticano, la “guerra santa” contro Bertone. Lo Ior e la successione a Ratzinger gli obiettivi del complotto:

What has been made public in recent days in the Vatican - the leakage of confidential documents, the investigation of "informers" and the arrest of the Pope's butler - represents the natural evolution of the ongoing power struggle between loyalists in the Oltretevere (Cathcon- the offices of the Secretariat of State) of Tarcisio Bertone and opponents of the Secretary of State. Repubblica revived the thesis which explains how "the game inside the Vatican, now focuses all around the IOR (The Institute for Works of Religion (Italian: Istituto per le Opere di Religione – IOR), commonly known as the Vatican Bank). It is a confrontation in which the Secretary of State, Tarcisio Bertone fights for his future. An underground battle is occurring completely decisive for the flow of money rushing into the Vatican state coffers, and for the balance of power within the Church. "

The centrality of the IOR in the Vatican power struggle is very interesting, Andrea Tornielli writes in La Stampa . "Father Lombardi said yesterday that there is no link between confidence in the President of the IOR, Ettore Gotti Tedeschi and the occurance of Vatileaks. The banker, chosen by Cardinal Bertone, in September 2009, columnist of 'L'Osservatore Romano' and friend of its director Gian Maria Vian, was dismissed last Thursday by the supervisory council composed of lay members. The next day - writes Tornielli - the commission of cardinals met to ratify the vote of no confidence, but the results of their deliberations have not been made public. Rather, the decision was filtered deliberately by the release of the harsh letter from Carl Anderson - one of the four board members - containing the reasons for the dismissal of Gotti Tedeschi, whose figure is destroyed professionally. "

The banker - says the analyst of La Stamps - is also accused of not providing 'explanations on the distribution of documents' in his possession. The mode of dismissal is unusual in the tradition of the Holy See, and could have strong effects, if and when Gotti Tedeschi breaks his silence. The Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone was, according to the 'informers' the true objective of the operation which was designed to accelerate his retirement. Although objectively, the barrage of Vatileaks disproportionately directs distrust towards a cardinal who will turn 78 years in December.

Tornielli continued, "unless we assume, as some have done, that behind the curial and extra-curial turmoil, there are ambitions ahead of the change in the office of the Secretary of State and in the background, even the succession to the elderly Pontiff, Ratzinger who wanted Bertone beside him, trusts him and does not seem willing to change, despite the same cardinal offering to withdraw. His handling of the Secretary of State has been the target of much criticism. As often happened, however, at the time of the storm, the ecclesiastical institution closes like a clam, to defend its members in clerical vesture. "

In the meantime, the battle for the succession at the IOR of Gotti Tedeschi comes to life . According to a report in the Republica, the name of the former governor of the Bundesbank Hans Tietmayer has been lined up. "He is 81 years old - says the Roman daily – but when he was young he undertook theological studies and is also German. This will be the name liked best by the Pope and his secretary, Monsignor Georg Gaenwein. Pay attention also to Hermann Schmitz, who since last week took over as interim president of the Institute. Then there is the American Carl Anderson, and three Italian names which all respect: the Turin notary, Antonio Maria Marocco, president of ABI, Giuseppe Mussari, and the managing director of Apsa, which is responsible for the heritage of the Apostolic See, Paul Mennini. "

Muslim groups demand Hagia Sophia be made a mosque on the anniversary of conquest

Istanbul: Neuer Streit um Hagia Sophia am Eroberungs-Jahrestag - Nachrichten Newsticker - News2 (AFP - Newsticker) - WELT ONLINE

Muslim groups call for conversion into mosque

To mark the anniversary of the Ottoman conquest of Constantinople in the 15th Century, Muslim groups have called for Turkey to open Hagia Sophia in Istanbul for worship again as a mosque . Several dozen Muslims performed their morning prayers on Tuesday pointedly before the closed gate of the cathedral in the center of Istanbul, as news channel CNN-Turk reported. They told the station that they were seeking a repeal of the ban on prayer in the building which was erected in 537.

Cathcon- seem to remember reading a report of Friday prayers having actually taken place inside the building.

Lamentation for the Fall of Constantinope on this day 1453

The preceding weeks had passed full of omens. A lunar eclipse; an inexplicable darkness; and a strange light playing about the towers of the great cathedral of the Hagia Sophia (later a mosque, now a museum):  The priests muttered prayers and crossed themselves and said the Holy Spirit was departing the city. Constantine Palaiologus, the last of the Caesars, grim with the afflatus of 1,500 years, removes the imperial purple so as to be indistinguishable from any other soldier before joining his troops in battle and is presumed killed defending the city walls. To the Sultan's terms of surrender he had responded:

"To abandon the city to you is beyond my authority or anyone else's who lives in it, for all of us, after taking the mutual decision, shall die out of free will without sparing our lives." One legend says the emperor was turned to marble by an angel and secreted within a cave beneath the Golden Gate, where he sleeps to this day, sword in hand, until Christian Europe needs him again. In reality he was most likely cut to pieces by Ottoman swords and buried in a mass grave. With him died the Byzantine Empire (that is, the Eastern Roman Empire) and the last echo of the classical world ("Homer and Plato have died a second death", a contemporary chronicler lamented). The Modern Era is traditionally reckoned from this date.
In two parts

O God, the heathen have come into your inheritance, they have defiled your holy temple, O Lord. They have given the dead bodies of your servants to the beasts of the earth. They have shed their blood like water round about Jerusalem and there was no one to bury them. We have become a reproach to our neighbors, subjected to scorn and derision from those around us. How long, O Lord? Again how long, O Lord? Will you be angry forever? How long shall your jealousy burn as fire? Pour out your wrath on the nations that do not know you, and on kingdoms which have not called upon your name. Do not remember our old sins, but quickly help us, and have mercy on us.

Apparently the choir dress of the Great Church- rhe cantors (psaltes) wore wide-brimmed hats (skiadion) or tall "bullet" hats (skaranikon) and dressed in special cloaks (kamision and phelonion) girded with a belt (sfiktourion). This cantors' costume tradition was lost after the Fall of Constantinople in 1453 leaving the cantor dressed only with a black robe (rason) of the Eastern Church.

1400- the year the Emperor visited England to seek the help of the King

Only defeat of the Turks by the Mongol Chief Timur at the Battle of Angora in 1402 prevented an earlier showdown in Constantinople, prior to her eventual fall in 1453. In 1399, the Emperor, Manuel II. Palseologus was so desperate that he set out on a European tour to seek help. Having first visited Paris, he landed in Britain on 11 December, as is recorded in the Chronicle of Adam of Usk-

The emperor of the Greeks, seeking to get aid against the Saracens, visited the king of England in London, on the day of Saint Thomas the Apostle (21st December), being well received by him, and abiding with him, at very great cost, for two months, being also comforted at his departure with very great gifts. This emperor always walked with his men, dressed alike and in one colour, namely white, in long robes cut like tabards ; he finding fault with the many fashions and distinctions in dress of the English , wherein he said that fickleness and changeable temper was betokened. No razor touched head or beard of his chaplains. These Greeks were most devout in their church services, which were joined in as well by soldiers as by priests, for they chanted them without distinction in their native tongue. I thought within myself, what a grievous thing it was that this great Christian prince from the farther east should perforce be driven by unbelievers to visit the distant islands of the west, to seek aid against them. My God! What dost thou, ancient glory of Rome? Shorn is the greatness of thine empire this day ; and truly may the words of Jeremy be spoken unto thee: "Princess among the provinces, how is she become tributary " (2 Lament, i. 1.) Who would ever believe that thou shouldst sink to such, depth of misery, that, although once seated on the throne of majesty thou didst lord it over all the world, now thou hast no power to bring succour to the Christian faith?

The king kept Christmas with the emperor at Eltham.

[15] Jesus saith to them: But whom do you say that I am?
[16] Simon Peter answered and said: Thou art Christ, the Son of the living God.
[17] And Jesus answering, said to him: Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-Jona: because flesh and blood hath not revealed it to thee, but my Father who is in heaven.
[18] And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
[19] And I will give to thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven. And whatsoever thou shalt bind upon earth, it shall be bound also in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose upon earth, it shall be loosed also in heaven.
[20] Then he commanded his disciples, that they should tell no one that he was Jesus the Christ.

[16] respondens Simon Petrus dixit tu es Christus Filius Dei vivi

The man leading the police investigation in Rome- Domenico Giani

Vatileaks now has its own Father Brown- Father Martignani investigates

„Es ist wichtig, Freunde um sich zu haben“ – Vatikeaks und die dunklen Nächte Benedikts XVI. › Katholisches

"It is important to have friends around" – Vatileaks and the dark nights of Benedict XVI.

His name is Luigi Martignani and he is a Capuchin. The staff member of the Vatican Secretariat of State has been appointed secretary of the commission of three Cardinals appointed to investigate the Vatileaks scandal. This refers to the confidential documents smuggled out of the Vatican and leaked to the press.

Pope Benedict XVI pursued the matter is not without concern. From his immediate circle can be heard, rather, that the Pope is very concerned about the document leak and related breach of trust in his immediate environment. At yesterday's lunch with the Cardinals which was given by the College of Cardinals in honor of his 85th Birth, he said, not by chance: "It is important to have friends around." And added: "In my life I have experienced wonderful times, but also dark nights. The nights were necessary, and today, surrounded by the cardinals, my friends, I feel safe in this society. Evil wants to rule the world and it does so either by force or by disguising himself with good. In this way, it destroys the moral foundations of society. "
On another level, Martignani must now act. He is the operational arm of Cardinals Herranz, Tomko and De Giorgi, who lead the investigation. His task is to find out who is responsible for the leak of documents who was referred to by the journalist Nuzzi in his tell-all book with the code name "Mary." The journalist claimed that not just one person but several hide behind the name. The Vatican thought behind this statement Nuzzis a diversion in order to protect his informants.

Father Martignani- off duty or undercover!

A person who betrays secrets is, of course, nothing new in the Papal State. Each pontificate had its leak. The late doyen of the Vaticanists, Benny Lai wrote many times in his diaries about such leaks. Usually, it is a person who has, within the Leonine walls, "strong protection", which can be so strong that even when he is unmasked, the culprit is not necessarily removed from his post. Lai admitted that he used all possible methods to collect information. "From our own pocket, we paid monthly to 10,000 lire to Riccardo Galeazzi Lisi, the doctor of Pius XII to keep us up to date about the health of the Pope." When Pius XII. discovered that Galeazzi Lisi informed about him, he dismissed him. "If he wants to stay in the Vatican, let him stay, but make sure that it is arranged that I do not see him anymore," said the Pope. And the corrupt chief doctor did not thank him, but succeeded with a hidden mini-camera of taking a photo of the dying pope.

History must not repeat itself however. The mole of the 2012 cannot in any way count on it. It is certainly not ruled out that he, too, once detected, he will keep his position . His faster unmasking is expected. The Vatican Gendarmerie has already been searching. (Cathcon this article was produced prior to the arrest- one article in German was talking about life-long imprisonment. This is unlikely given that the butler has started to implicate others).

The mole had access to the archives of the State Secretariat, namely the part in which the Archbishop Gänswein, the private secretary of Pope, in which correspondence addressed to him and the Pope is placed after it has been replied to. The group of people is very small.

More arrests possible very soon in Vatileaks

Monstrance presented as prize for best costume at Viennese ball

For the record this is an AIDS Benefit Ball promoted by among others UNAIDS- see their full press release below.   Cathcon has every sympathy with combating AIDS and know of the magnificent work done by the Knights of Malta, especially in South Africa, but how do they think their cause is served by insulting the faith of every right believing Catholic in the entire world that just beggars belief.   Will the Cardinal Archbishop of Vienna speak up in protest?  - I doubt it.

UNAIDS joins 20th Anniversary Life Ball in Vienna 21 May 2012

UNAIDS Deputy Executive Director, Management and External Relations Jan Beagle giving her opening remarks at the AIDS Solidarity Gala.

Europe’s biggest AIDS charity event was held on 19 May in the Austrian city of Vienna. Organized by AIDS LIFE, the Life Ball 2012 brought together celebrities and influential leaders in the global AIDS response to celebrate the 20th anniversary of what has become one of the largest AIDS fundraising events worldwide since it was first held in 1993. This year’s Life Ball was held under the theme “Fight the Flames of Ignorance”.

The theme provides the conclusion to the four-year cycle of elements that began in 2009 with water and was aimed at contributing to the removal of the taboos surrounding AIDS in society. The AIDS Solidarity Gala, a high-level dinner preceding the Life Ball opening ceremony, was organized under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Austria Heinz Fischer and co-hosted by UNAIDS for the second consecutive year. Former United States President Bill Clinton, UNAIDS Deputy Executive Director, Management and External Relations Jan Beagle, amfAR spokesperson Milla Jovovich, actor Sean Penn and art collector Francesca Habsburg also participated in the event.

Proceeds from the gala will be used, in part, to support the work of UNAIDS in the Russian Federation. Donations will be dedicated to improve the lives of children orphaned by AIDS and families affected by HIV as well as to strengthen HIV prevention among women of childbearing age. The epidemic is still a magnifier for social injustice. Stigma and discrimination, criminalization of HIV, gender inequity and numerous forms of human rights violations continue to fuel new HIV infections and block people from accessing lifesaving treatment In her opening remarks Ms Beagle noted that, despite progress made in the global AIDS response, the AIDS epidemic is not over. “The epidemic is still a magnifier for social injustice. Stigma and discrimination, criminalization of HIV, gender inequity and numerous forms of human rights violations continue to fuel new HIV infections and block people from accessing lifesaving treatment,” said Ms Beagle.

This is relevant to the epidemic in Eastern Europe and Central Asia noted Ms Beagle since unlike most other regions, AIDS-related deaths continue to rise. “I am grateful to AIDS LIFE for being such a strong, committed supporter of UNAIDS work in this region. With your help, we will break the trajectory of HIV in Eastern Europe and Central Asia and achieve the same success we are seeing in Africa and the rest of the world” added Ms Beagle. President Clinton noted in his statement that "The UN has a goal of making sure children are born free of HIV in the first place. Resources raised at the Gala for the Clinton Foundation will be used in Zambia and Uganda to prevent mothers to pass HIV to their children."

Every year, the Life Ball recognizes the work and dedication of pioneers in the AIDS response through the “Crystal of Hope” award. Supermodel Naomi Campbell and Hollywood actor Antonio Banderas presented this year’s award of EUR 100 000 to Jackie Branfield, founder of “Operation Bobbi Bear”—a project dedicated to respond to child abuse and sexual crimes in South Africa. Nearly 40 000 people and famous celebrities have come out in support of the AIDS response at this year’s Life Ball. The charity event, organized by AIDS LIFE, raised over US$ 2,3 million last year for AIDS programmes worldwide through partnerships with amfAR, the William J. Clinton Foundation, MTV Staying Alive Foundation, and UNAIDS.
