One is apparently the Bread Altar and the other is the Word Altar. In Catholic theology, they are not equivalent because it is the Sacrifice of the Mass that matters and where Christ is really present.

Iconic photo of the DOA Modernism in Catholic architecture and theology. It is so bizarre and abstract that it is completely impotent and unable to instruct the faithful in matters of salvation. When this place is dozed in a few decades, no one will miss it. In fact, it may start falling apart because it is so flimsy and people will beg for it to be demolished. THAT will be iconic, too.
