With all due respect to his emminence does he realise that this is not a paticuarly good move on the eve of talks with the SSPX?
Even if he personally isn't a big fan of the TLM refusing the FSSP permission is not exactly going to instill confidence in the SSPX's perception on how they will be treated when they return to the fold.
A despicable move but then, the FSSP have not exactly been warmly received in England and Wales.
In Wales, in particular, we have many parishes sans priests and those that do have a pastor see less of him because he scoots between up to 3 parishes each Sunday, taking Mass to the Faithful.
You would think that any Bishop worth his salt would jump at the chance of extra support from the FSSP.
Just what are they afraid of?
I'm a bit confused. The Cardinal refuses permission for the FSSP...to do what? Say Mass? Run a school? A parish? Hopefully more details will follow.
Having said that, however, what happened to Summorum Pontificum? What happened to the provison in the motu proprio that allows a priest to say the ancient mass "any time, anywhere, in any parish, for any occasion, without the permission of the Bishop"?
We are all grateful to the Holy Father for the motu proprio. We'd be even more grateful if he would back up his words with concrete actions. If the Pope is going to go back into "fear mode", and let the Bishops run the show as previously, then I fail to see how any truly significant liturgical correction will ever come about.
Dear God, give us a Pope with guts.
Shepherd Mate, The entirely of the Bishops and Whales - sans +Longly and +Nicols are memebers of the magic circle, a tag for liberal prelates who if they don't despise tradition outright are frightend that if they allow trads such as the FSSP into their diocese then they might face an uprising from the faithfull who want the old Mass and a traditional Catholic life + teaching.
The only Bishop other than Longly and Nicols that I think MIGHT be on our side is Rouche and IF he is then he is playing a very very long game.
