Imagine that: a man whose life spanned three centuries. When he was in the trenches, how little he must have suspected that he would live so long.

Now there are only three veterans of World War I left in the world: one American (Frank Buckles, age 108), one Canadian, and one Australian. Soon the Great War will have passed out of living memory.
