Tomorrow is a day of infamy

as it marks the day that the virulent anti-semite Luther nailed his 95 theses to the door of the castle church in Wittenburg. 95 erroneous theses are already 95 too many but now the protestants of Lubeck have devised an additional 12 more.

Thank you for that!

Yesterday, I listened to a fascinating account on the wireless Deutschlandfunk) of Luther's family background. I had no idea that the father was by no means a "poor miner" but stinking rich and held a social position on the brink of the middle classes, just short of aristocracy.

Luther himself cultivated that image of a "son of the people" carefully. Have there already been spin doctors and PR-consultants in the early 16th century or came lying just naturally to him?
