St Brigid's Church, San Francisco

Academy of Art University will purchase landmark SF building from Archdiocese

Robert Bryan, former head of the Committee to Save St. Brigid
"I never got the impression the bottom line for the Archdiocese was doing the right thing."

And a comment from the new owners
"The Catholic Church and the arts have a harmonious relationship all the way back to the Renaissance."

As if history starts in the Renaissance. Art is a servant of the Church, not its equal nor its master.

And finally a comment which hardly raises confidence in the new Prefect of the Congregration for the Doctrine of the Faith. How many of Rome's Churches will he treat like this?

Archbishop William Levada, who is leaving soon for a top position at the Vatican, said in a statement that he was impressed by the Art Academy's "proven track record in preserving a number of San Francisco historic buildings and using them for purposes that benefit the entire community."
