Make sure that you always get a full account and inventory of all the precious objects in a closing church. This is how one chalice was treated in France; it became a lamp stand. It goes without saying that justice demands that donated objects be returned to the original donors. But justice and the Diocesan authorities seemed to be estranged from eachother in many cases.

Yesterday was the Feast of St Thomas of Canterbury, Martyr. The location of his shrine in Canterbury Cathedral which was desecrated by King Henry VIII is known by Catholics as the big hole, so vacant and desolate does it now seem where once pilgrims thronged. Not many of the tourists in the Cathedral know of the martyrdom or its implications. And the Church of England guides won't be about to explain it.

Dangerous to presume on the goodwill of the Archdiocese of Boston - given their track record to date.
